Donald Sipe is founder and president of two arts companies:
Omicron Artist
Management and sonatabop.com, and
active as a performer, producer and arranger. He is also
co-founder - with Mike Dorau - of Innovation
Artistry, a company that helps businesses and
institutions with human performance, team work and
strategic planning.
Founded in 1993, Omicron Artist Management, Inc. represents
classical and jazz conductors, soloist, chamber ensembles,
and composers. As President of OAM, Don Sipe is active in
all aspects of career guidance for clients, and works with
orchestras, presenters, venues, publishers, media and
record companies world-wide on behalf of the Omicron
roster. In 2000, Sipe launched sonatabop.com, a CD sales
website dedicated to chamber music and small group jazz.
As a performer he has performed throughout the United
States, Europe and South America. His most recent positions
include Acting Associate Principal Trumpet of the Milwaukee
Symphony Orchestra and Principal Trumpet of the Milwaukee
Ballet Orchestra. He performs regularly with the Milwaukee
Symphony, Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra and has performed as
principal trumpet with the Syracuse Symphony, the Green Bay
Symphony, the Chicago Sinfonietta and the Brass Band of
Battle Creek.
His chamber music credits include the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra Brass Ensemble, the Chicago Brass Quintet, The
Milwaukee Brass Quintet, the Fulcrum Point New Music
Ensemble and the Summit Brass. His arrangements for brass
quintet have been played by many brass quintets including
Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet.
Sipe has appeared as soloist with the Milwaukee Chamber
Orchestra, the Air Force Heritage of America Band (with
jazz trumpeter Marvin Stamm), the Waukesha Symphony,
Present Music, and the National Repertory Orchestra. He has
recorded with the Summit Brass, Present Music, the
Milwaukee Symphony, Sones de Mexico and new age artist
Peter Buffit. He has performed throughout the United
States, Europe and South America working with a wide range
of luninaries including Leonard Bernstein, Doc Severisen,
Aretha Franklin and Bob Newhart.
He has taught at Carthage College, is a regular coach of
the Milwaukee Youth Symphony and participates in the
nationally lauded ACE (Arts in Community Education)
program. He is the former Co-principal trumpet of the New
World Symphony in Miami, Florida, where he worked with the
conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and has participated in
several summer music festivals, including Tanglewood,
Spoleto, the Woodstock Mozart Festival, the Peninsula Music
Festival, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Keystone,
CO.
Sipe earned his Bachelor and Master's degrees in music from
the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where he
studied trumpet with Barbara Butler. He lives in Milwaukee,
WI with his wife Jennifer Startt, Principal Second
violinist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and their
daughter Emmeline Rose.
